The District of Columbia was ranked #1 in terms of ‘fit cities’ by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) from 2008-2010. Not this year though, according to the ACSM we’ve been edged out by Minneapolis- St. Paul. Our crown has been snatched and we’ve been left as (boo-hoo) number 2! It was DC’s "low smoking rate, a better-than-average number of folks eating fruits and vegetables and a lower-than-average rate of obesity," that got us our three-peat, according to Walter Thompson, an advisee to the study and professor of Georgia State. It was a close call, Minneapolis scored a 77.2 out of 100 on the index, while Washington DC came in at less than half a point behind at 76.8! Doesn’t that just get your competitive/training/fitness spirit going? Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s get to training for next year, so we can regain our title of Fittest city in America!
