What are you exercising for? Have you asked yourself that question lately? What ARE you exercising for?
Having short term goals in mind when we start an exercise program is a fantastic way to prime our motivation motors. We NEED short term goals to get us motivated; lose that 5-10 pounds- be able to do a pull up- rehab that knee- look good in that bikini... but what about long term goals?
If we never give any thought to our long term fitness goals, then pretty soon our motivation fizzles. Shortly after that, our fitness fizzles too...
Personally, I want to be able to pick up my kids without any back pain. I want to be able to go on a hike spontaneously and not have my body ache all over the next day. I want to be 80 and still be mobile, and with any luck, pick up my grand-kids without back pain!
Have you thought about what you want from your workouts, in the long term? Are you just training to get through the day, to get through the week, to get through another year of the grind OR are you training to be able to live life to the fullest? Sometimes it helps to go over goals with someone. If you want help focusing on or developing lifelong goals, you can always to talk to the fitness professionals at Fitness Together Capitol Hill, we're here to help!
