If you’re planning on being out of your routine for a while, make sure that doesn’t mean your nutrition goes out the door! If you’re gonna be on an exotic beach, okay enjoy a Mai Thai... gonna be at a world renowned chef’s restaurant? Okay enjoy some savory buttery delicacies, but let’s not waste all our hard fitness work on getting to our destination. Whether you are driving, flying, boating, or anything else (tell ya what...if you are running or biking to your exotic destination, eat whatever the heck you want!) there is one very simple trick that can help you immensely with staying fit and healthy. Ready for it? Okay, here it goes...
PLAN AHEAD!
If you are going to be in a car/train/plane/boat for 9 hours of travel, don’t wait until you are starving and pull over to gorge at a fast food place! Don’t get suckered into the pre-made sugary carby cardboardy in flight meal. Plan ahead and have healthy snacks with you, to keep you from the poor decision making that comes with getting too hungry. Even better, pack whole meals and pack them with belly filling protein. If you do have to stop for food, stop at a grocery store instead of a fast food place, you will have a plethora of nutritious options at the grocery store instead of being faced with that impossible-to-say-no-to-question, “would you like fries with that”?
While modern air travel means you can’t bring on homemade salad, lucky for you most major airports have caught on with the trend of eating healthier, so you should be able to find something in a cafe or small grocery store that you can take on the plane. If you don’t plan ahead, you are going to find yourself making poor decisions because your hunger will cloud your brain!
